JAMIE THE MUPPET

This assignment I was required to create an original character. I was prompted to think about existing character universes that I like and have my character be from there. I chose the Jim Henson Company, as his creations have been a big part of my creative development and he is a huge inspiration to me. In the original sketches of my character, I gravitated towards drawing something that I know best, myself. Thus, Jamie the Muppet was born. 

I was required to draw her straight on, a 3/4ths view, a dynamic pose, and 5 different emotions. Using myself as a reference made this project a lot of fun. Instead of figuring out a new personality, using my own provided a clear direction to go for her dynamic pose and emotions. I had a lot of fun replicating my most used emotions, confused, distracted, silly, clown, and angry. 

I don’t consider my illustration skills to be incredibly refined, so this project posed some challenges of trying to get the technical skill and style defined, despite being a rather simplistic art style. I am quite proud of the way it turned out, and I think she is a perfect representation of myself and my personality.
